Nightfolk Miniatures

Even though this is SUPPOSED to be my Horror Miniatures Blog, I'm posting it here (I might have to re-brand the thread actually LoL)

Being a HUGE fan of the "Castle Falkenstein" and the Amazing Engine "For Faerie, Queen and Country" RPG's I wanted to do something more "quant" for Empire of the Dead (and In Her Majesty's Name/1887 The Secret War)!

Linda (as usual) came to the rescue, and sorted me out! With a range that REALLY fits the bill - the Nightfolk range of Miniatures from Northumbrian Tin Soldier.

They turned up today, lovely stuff - perfect castings, no over the top flashing and no miscasts/defects - fantastic all! Thanks for Linda (for getting them for me, even though I was "ooing and aahing" about adding another range to my lead pile {mountain?}) and many thanks to David & Jayne (at Northumbrian Tin Soldier) for their fast shipping, and AMAZINGLY well wrapped (and very shexy) products!

Northumbrian Tin Soldier - Nightfolk Miniatures

AND wait till you see my Cast Notes for my 7TV/7th Voyage Mash-up ;) I've even got a Miniature for Jareth the Goblin King :D

Who do you think you are Kidding Mr Hastur . . . . . . .

I've got the 7th Ed Miniatures now, I've taken pictures (after forgetting and starting to clean up/assemble one) - and my thoughts will be posted later.

In addition my print copy of Vlads Army (a 7ombieTV supplement by Crooked Dice) arrived - very nice it is too.

I just need to finish the rules for my beloved Mythos Creatures, and I can play "Achtung! Cthulhu" Games 7TV style!

My Name . . . . . .

I sit here, in the near darkness of the room - and I seem them out of the corner of my eye. Tiny crawling, scratching, grabbing things - I can almost hear them chattering to each other. They have almost inaudible scratchy voices, as if they were really tiny people with sore throats - whispering softly in the dark corners of my room.

Whispering my name, why is it always My Name.

MY NAME . . . my name . . .

But then I look - look directly where they were, or thought they were, and they are gone. I turn on my beside lamp and return to the book I was reading - I can't sleep, but I need to do something - I can't just wait there for them to return. Anyway, maybe the light will keep them at bay.

They're still there, in the shadows - I can hear them, breathing and whispering. They want me, they want to take me. Take me away to lord knows where. I know if I fall asleep I am gone, gone for good, gone forever - I will be nothing but a memory, nothing but a name, MY NAME . . . my name . . .

But thats what they want, there is power in names. Not just in the names of the ancient powerful things of darkness - but in the name of everyone, every person on this planet; and they want that, they want that power for whatever reason. They don't really want me, they want MY NAME . . . my name . . . .

My Name . . . MY NAME . . . my name . . . . . . .

I did fall asleep, all this is but a memory - I am nothing, no-one - I am one of them now. Now they have taken my name . . . MY NAME . . .

I am with them, one of them. Crawling, scratching, grabbing in the dark places till we find another with a name we can take and use the power of - yes, I can do to them what was done to me; and our masters will be powerful and grateful and reward us with New Names of our own.

We will take her name, his name, everybody's name - till the ancient ones are fed and we are free and once again I have my own name . . .

my name . . . My Name . . . MY NAME . . . . . .

7th Edition Call of Cthulhu Miniatures

Even though I am not 100% sold on the 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu Miniatures, I am the first to admit - you can't look a gift horse in the mouth!

I got told by a friend today I am being sent some of the new Miniatures!

A selection of Investigators, Byakhee, Flying Polyp, Mi-Go, and Yithian with Lightning Gun!!

As they are being sent from within the UK, expect my thoughts over the weekend (unless the Royal Mail screw up even worse than usual).

New Toys - YAY!

Elder Thing

Todays Update - ACTUAL PAINTING FINISHED (Damn my rotten health).

"Elder Thing" (RAFM Miniature)

"The toughness of the things was almost incredible. Even the terrific pressure of the deepest sea bottoms appeared powerless to harm them. Very few seemed to die at all except by violence, and their burial places were very limited" ~ At the Mountains of Madness

This bugger has been sitting on my Painting table half done for a while now, I woke up in the middle of the night and was "inspired" to finish him (it?).

Done/Not Done . . . . . .

Been kinda rough (again) with my health the last couple of days, so no real hobby work - assembled/cleaned up/based a few things - although I've decided my main Focus is going to be the classic RAFM Cthulhu range - I LOVE the sculpts so much. Still, some progress has been made hobby wise - just no painting!

Stuff I got Done -

Dark Young of Shub Niggurath - Cleaned Up/Assembled - Filling/Putty Work still to be Started.

Great Cthulhu - Cleaned Up/Assembled - Filling/Putty Work still to be Started.

Great Race of Yith - Cleaned Up/Assembled - Filling/Putty Work 90% Done.

Mythos Altar (a Fenris Piece) converted/filled - just need to sculpt/carve Elder Signs on the front - the back has the Derleth Elder Sign, undecided whether to go original or Derleth on the front.

Jobs to do Today (assuming I feel up to it when the household chores are finished) -

Tidy up Painting Area (its a mess atm).

Sort out old paints and wash pots out.

(Hopefully) start the Gravestones/Monoliths.

It's horrible (in a way) playing catch-up, as most of this stuff had been done prior to the fire that decimated my collection - but in another way, it's actually been fun!

The Thing in the Snow . . . . .

Todays "Update" - I've finished the "grunt work" on my Elder Thing Corpse, still got some filling and sculpting to do - but its another part of the whole project on its way :D

Strange Aeons

Strange Aeons has really REALLY caught my imagination, after pretty much losing any momentum with my Lovecraft Miniatures collection (down to losing so much in the fire, and having to strip the paint off almost all of the ones that didn't get destroyed) - I had resigned myself to pretty much just being an avid reader of Mythos Stories, and remembering the fun I had playing the Call of Cthulhu RPG.

I'd looked at Strange Aeons many times, but what put me off was I had to get most (if not all of the stuff from Canada - and I am generally unlucky with overseas shipping - Customs charges, handling fees, damaged and lost parcels etc.

So when Linda saw the Strange PDF "Virtual Insanity Deal" from Uncle Mikes Worldwide, she jumped on it straight away!

After reading the rules, I was sold - hook line and sinker - the really are great fun, and that was in spite of a few Gamers moaning about "balance" - an opinion which is illogical at best, and ill informed at worst (you don't REALLY ever get balance in fantasy wargames anyway, as "power creep" always comes steadily in between editions of most sets of rules - Games Workshop are the most guilty of this) the game involves your Agents improving between games - similar to Necromunda/Mordheim, such rule sets are designed to be fast, fun, and furious - that's the point, plus you are facing your Agents off against Eldritch powers - good luck balancing that out WITHOUT destroying the flavour and menace of the setting.

So, I started by rebasing my PREVIOUS "reboot" into the worlds of the Mythos - starting with the first two Avolak Castings miniatures I painted.

Randolph Carter running for his life from Y'golonac - the bases are 2mm thick Renedra Plastics bases (thanks to my mate Tony Yates showing me the link) - with hand carved (out of plasticard) flagstone "toppers", you can't see it there - but Carters base also has an Elder Sign carved into it.

Then I painted this cool little Statue from Copplestone Castings.

I added a little texture before painting it, as it was a little too smooth for my tastes.

Then I painted this little bugger from Platypus Games - he's a Spawn Fiend Overseer (their website is being rennovated, so if you want one you'll have to go to Ebay) - but I've painted mine as the "Offspring Of The King In Yellow".

For those interested (I'm assuming there are some LoL, sorry for the arrogance) - I'm making a "big deal" about what Im working on for one simple reason - I'm being "vocal" in a hope of reducing my "Butterfly" behaviour when it comes to my many MANY projects - and because I keep coming back to my Mythos stuff over and over again, and never seem to finish much.

My group of four RAFM Mi-Go (only another 16 to go from various manufacturers - and that's not including the Mansions of Madness Boardgame Mi-Go LoL) are nearly finished, just some tidying and the bases to go - blocked in my first three new Investigators (I'm having a go at some Black Cat Bases Investigators first).

Then I want to make a start on some Cultists (I'm painting my Northstar In Her Majesty's Name "Servants of Ra" Cultists first - they're already base sprayed a brick-red, I've decided on Dark Red robes for the first lot) - and whilst working on them finish my RAFM "Lesser Outer God" (and another "Creature" - but I haven't decided what yet).

THEN paint all the various Grave Stones and Monoliths I've based up, and my Uncle Mikes "Crypt of Cthulhu" - then with the other bits and bobs I have, I actually have enough to do a fairly creepy looking 2'x2' "House by the Cemetery" layout!

AND THEN (as you can see I have a long term plan for this) I plan to do something with a "Mountains of Madness" feel to it!

While I'm doing all this - I have a host of other bits and bobs to do for the overall project - building Ice and Snow Terrain (anyone got any tips, I've never done that before), painting up my Street Furniture (I plan on playing some scenarios "on the streets" or at the very least, around the Miskatonic University Campus) and Vehicles (I've got three lots - as I plan to vary manufacturers for my Investigators, and they are all slightly different sizes).

See, I have plans . . . . . . (and all that's without my "Strange Aeons by Gaslight" idea).

Im also keeping a log via the Dark Abyss Facebook Group, and my Van Helsings Cthulhu / Strange Aeons / DreamQuest Miniatures Thread over at Lead Adventure.
